Civil Rights & Discrimination

Chan Citing Federal Statute_edited.jpg

Ahn Law Firm litigates a variety of discrimination cases in the areas of employment, public accommodations, education, and police accountability.

Our civil rights and discrimination practice includes individual and class action lawsuits on behalf of plaintiffs who have suffered discrimination, harassment, or unfair treatment on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, age, familial status, source of income, or sexual orientation. This practice area often overlaps with our employment practice.

We have litigated numerous cases on behalf of employees who have suffered a variety of discriminatory and adverse employment actions, including failure to hire or promote, wrongful termination, sexual or racial harassment, and retaliation.

We provide legal representation at every stage of a discrimination complaint, including counseling employees on their rights, negotiating with employers, representing employees in the administrative process, and litigating in federal or state court.  We represent clients who have been discriminated against on any basis protected under the law, including race, color, national origin, religion, sex, pregnancy, disability, age, and marital status.

The Scope of Our Civil Rights Practice

Our practice also includes representation of clients on a variety of public accommodations discrimination cases against hotels, restaurants, retail stores, and other places of public accommodations, where they harass, refuse to provide service to, or provide inferior service to certain customers of a protected class on an improper basis.

Protecting the rights of the people against the improper exercise of the police power is another area of our civil rights and discrimination practice.  We can bring civil actions on behalf of the victims of police misconduct.  These actions would include claims for violation of the rights under the United States Constitution to equal protection of the laws, to due process, to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures, as well as claims for unlawful arrest or imprisonment and malicious prosecution.
